Islington Support Payment Scheme news

Latest news about the Islington Support Payment Scheme, for people who experienced abuse while placed by Islington Council in its children's homes between 1966 to 1995.

Applications to the Islington Support Payment Scheme are now closed

The Islington Support Payment Scheme was open for applications between 31 May 2022 and 31 May 2024. The last applications are now being assessed.

While the Support Payment Scheme has closed, the council’s wider support for survivors continues. This includes the Non-Recent Abuse Team who provide support around access to care records, work and learning, housing and welfare advice, and community, health and wellbeing activities. It also includes trauma and emotional support.

The scheme ran alongside the existing civil compensation route and was not created to replace it. It has no bearing on any civil compensation claims that survivors may bring, except that – to ensure fairness and compliance with constitutional requirements – a scheme payment would be offset against any later civil compensation claim payment, and any previous civil compensation claim payment would be offset against a scheme payment.
