Electric vehicles

Electric vehicles (EVs) help to improve local air quality by reducing harmful emissions. Learn about parking and where to charge an electric vehicle in Islington.

Parking

Electric vehicles pay less for some parking permits, including resident parking permits and business parking permits. This is because they produce less air pollution. But pollutants from tyres and manufacture and disposal of the battery mean prices will not stay the same each year.

Check more parking permits.

Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ)

Islington is in the Ultra Low Emission Zone. Electric vehicles are exempt from paying ULEZ charges. Visit Transport for London (TfL) to check if your vehicle meets the standards.

Why choose an electric vehicle

London has dangerous levels of air pollution which impact our health and contributes to climate change. The majority of pollution in London comes from road transport.

Replacing petrol and diesel vehicles with electric vehicles will help to improve local air quality by reducing harmful emissions such as nitrous oxide and carbon dioxide.

We are supporting Islington residents switching to electric vehicles by providing an on-street charging infrastructure. We know the majority of residents in Islington do not have off-street parking and cannot charge an electric vehicle at home.

Despite their environmental benefits, electric vehicles are still motorised vehicles which contribute to road congestion and road safety issues as well as contributing to pollution during manufacture. Public and active transport, like walking and cycling, are our top transport priority.
