A new Building Control regime came into force on 1 October 2023. See our technical and legal updates for more details.
Building Control makes sure:
- all buildings meet Building Regulations
- to establish functional standards for building design and construction to improve the health and safety of people in and near buildings.
As well as health and safety, Building Regulations support energy efficiency in buildings and help meet the needs of people with disabilities.
Building Control also oversees other aspects of construction including:
- controlling demolition
- licensing temporary and special structures
- dealing with dangerous structures.
Islington Council Building Control has powers to enforce Building Regulations 2010.
