Christmas and new year opening times and services

Find out our opening times and service changes over Christmas and New Year holidays. This includes changes to bin collection days, parking and customer contact centre opening hours.

Islington Town Hall will be closed from Thursday 2 to Monday 6 January 2025 for planned maintenance. Registrar services will be reopen on Monday 6 January 2025.

Since 2001, the UK Living Wage campaign has helped over 11,000 employers across the country to see the benefits of paying their staff a fair wage for a good day’s work. 

Over the last 21 years, more than 300,000 UK workers have received pay rises as a direct result of the campaign.

In Islington there are more than 300 accredited Living Wage Employers. Our action plan will see that number double over the next three years and help the borough strengthen its reputation as a champion against workplace poverty.

Paying staff the London Living Wage clearly makes sense for your employees. But there are also benefits for employers.

How you can get involved

Being recognised as a Living Wage Employer shows a commitment to helping support local communities, which can make businesses stand out to both prospective employees and customers. 

In a Living Wage study, 90% of consumers said businesses should pay wages that truly reflects the cost of living. Only the Living Wage does this.

Also, over 90% of students said they would want to work for Living Wage employers.   

Research has shown that over 93% of accredited businesses have benefited from paying staff the Living Wage including:

  • higher staff morale
  • improved rates of retention
  • lower rates of sickness and absence
  • reputational gain
