The Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO) is employed by the local authority, to have management and oversight of allegations across the children’s workforce. It is the responsibility of a designated safeguarding lead to make contact with the LADO when there is an allegation that any person who works with children, in connection with their employment or voluntary activity, has:
The LADO should also be notified when any person who works with children:
Members of the public do not make referrals directly to the LADO. Instead, they should raise any concerns directly with the person’s employer or use the complaints procedure. If it is felt a crime has been committed, a report should be made to the Police.
