Three Corners Adventure Playground and local parents wanted to create a sustainable outdoor summer house and build solar-powered toy cars to make learning about energy more enjoyable for everyone!
The Islington Community Energy Fund (ICEF) aims to support community led, innovative energy projects to reduce carbon emission and benefit Islington residents - particularly those struggling with fuel poverty. To date, around 45 projects have been funded, including Three Corners Adventure Playground’s initiative.
The funding awarded to Three Corners Adventure Playground in Clerkenwell enabled them to collaborate with Demand Energy Equality, who provided educational classes about electricity to entire families. Not only did the session help children make solar powered cars that they raced against each other, but parents and volunteers also built several solar panels.
"The Three Corners Adventure Playground is a real success story of local innovation and educating the next generation on the importance of renewable power."
Islington Council's Corporate Director of Environment and Regeneration, Kevin O'Leary said "It's wonderful to be able to see the direct benefit that the Community Energy Fund has brought to groups and residents in the borough.
"The Three Corners Adventure Playground is a real success story of local innovation and educating the next generation on the importance of renewable power. The main reason we launched the Islington Community Energy Fund was to address both fuel poverty and reduce the carbon footprint of the borough.”
Now, the adventure playground is powered solely through solar energy after volunteers installed the panels on the playground's summer house.
If you run a community-led energy project, consider applying for the Islington Community Energy Fund (ICEF).
