Support from the iWork team

Our iWork service can support any Islington resident who is out of work, or in low paid work, to access employment support and find a job, apprenticeship or training, opportunity. iWork is part of the Islington Working Partnership, a local group of employment support agencies who can help match your skills to local jobs and training agencies, as well as create a CV for you, and practice interview skills techniques.

Leading Inclusive Futures through Technology (LIFT)

Our LIFT programme (in partnership with Camden, Hackney and Tower Hamlets) was established to help residents to get into jobs and training and start businesses in the local knowledge economy including tech, digital, sciences, and creative production. Sign up for the LIFT bulletin and jobs board.

Health and Social Care sector

The iWork Health and Social Care resource hub works with a wide range of local NHS and Social care employers to promote entry level jobs. This could be your chance to train and gain clinical skills, or work within the sector as a: care assistant, administrator, receptionist, Activities Coordinator, care coordinator, Trainee nurse associate plus many more roles available in the sector.

Construction

Construction is a growing sector offering a great range of different types of work. From Quantity Surveyor to site supervisor, Carpenter or Plumber to Electrician -whatever you think suits your skills, talents and abilities- we will help match you to it.

The iWork construction team has vacancies on large scale developments, on the councils’ own home building and property maintenance contracts, as well as the emerging areas of retrofit and carbon neutral practises. Whether you are just thinking about the sector or already have a little experience, we can get you onto our books, identify your career options and preferences -and place you on a pathway to a successful career in construction.

iWork Temporary Recruitment Service

If you live in Islington, are looking for temporary work and would like to work for Islington Council, register on the Islington working portal.

We are working with the agency that supplies temporary staff to Islington council. 

All temporary staff at Islington council are paid at least the London Living Wage of £11.95 per hour, or more, depending on the role. You may even be able to save costs by walking to work.  We have:

  • administrative, office-based roles 
  • customer service roles 
  • opportunities for kitchen staff- child friendly part time hours 
  • cleaning and street-based roles 
  • opportunities for care staff 

Even as an agency temp, once you start work at the council, you will get the opportunity to apply for relevant internal vacancies if they arise.

Support for 16–25 year olds 

If you are aged between 16 and 25, there are many opportunities to work towards a career you enjoy. There are lots of services available to help young people in Islington plan their futures and get into work.

Job help from Jobcentre Plus

The Department of Work and Pensions offers online support for job-seekers that includes full-time and part-time vacancies, as well as advice on applying for jobs, how to use your transferable skills, staying motivated and support with redundancy.

Support for people with disabilities

Islington Supported Employment Team (ISET) will help Islington residents 18 years old and over with a Global Learning Disability (GLD) and/or autism to access support with their search for paid employment. 

You will be allocated a caseworker who will provide  tailored support:  

  • to access work experience, and vocational training 
  • with CV writing, job search and applying for jobs or apprenticeships. 
  • Interview skills sessions and mock interview training.  

We also offer support around negotiating with potential employers to request reasonable adjustments to the recruitment process, and the contract stage once offered a role.

All clients will also be supported during the first few weeks of a job start, including travel training to the place of work, and access to bespoke videos to support with work related tasks and training.  

We will also support people with a global learning disability who are in paid work – for example if your employer wishes to make any changes to your role, or you are not feeling happy in your role.

Mental Health Working Islington

Are you an Islington resident with a mental health condition in need of help preparing for or seeking work?

Hillside Clubhouse offer specialist support to help you move into education, training, employment, volunteering or work experience placements.
They have a specialist team of Employment Support Workers based across the community venues throughout Islington, as well as at the central hub.

Support for refugees
