Islington Council nursery fees

Islington Council pays for a portion (known as a subsidy) of childcare for children aged six months and above in all its children’s and early years centres, and some voluntary sector community nurseries. This helps us to make sure parents and carers in work or studying can get local, affordable, high-quality childcare.

Sliding scale

Parents are charged on a 'sliding scale' based on their household income. Childcare providers ask parents for evidence of their income as part of the admission process so that they know which charging band to put you in.

Islington residents and non-residents can also apply for non-subsidised or ‘marketed’ places, but Islington residents get priority places.

For full details of charges, including all the income bands, read the Early Years Charging Policy.

Free early learning

Some 2-year-olds can get 15 hours free early learning each week during term time. All 3 and 4 year olds can get 15 hours free during term-time and some working families can get an additional 15 hours free (30 hours). See our free early learning webpages for further information and how to apply.
