Apply for an A-board licence

If you want to advertise your business using an A-board on a public street then you must apply for a licence from us.

Please note, A-boards are not permitted on TFL red routes.

Apply for an Advertising board (A-board) licence

If you want to advertise your business using an A-board on a public street which is outside of a tables and chairs licensed area, you must apply for a licence from us. If granted, the licence will run from the date of issue for a period of one year. You can submit an online application form using this online form along with details of the proposed a-board indicating:

  • dimensions, width of pavement and its proximity to the kerb.
  • photo or illustration type of A-Board you propose to use
  • a public liability insurance policy for the sum of £5 million or above

The fee will be payable once your application is approved; we will contact you with payment details.

Fees

The fees are per item and the amount is dependent on the road banding:

  • Band A = £515.00
  • Band B = £369.00
  • Band C = £157.00

See what banding your street falls under. Please note:

  • you cannot place A-boards on a highway until a licence has been agreed and issued.
  • A-boards are not permitted on Transport for London red routes.
