Business waste: guidance for architects

Information for architects - and others that provide recycling and/or rubbish storage facilities for premises - on sustainable waste management systems

The Recycling and Refuse Storage Guidance document provides information for architects - and others that provide recycling and/or rubbish storage facilities for premises - in Islington to help them to incorporate sustainable waste management systems into their designs.

It covers the following:

  • waste management issues to consider when submitting a planning application
  • collection frequency and the provision of sufficient storage space
  • storage capacity and requirements
  • vehicle access requirements (eg refuse vehicles).

This guide is a reference and should not be considered as an alternative to consultation.  If you are designing or adapting a new building you must discuss the plans with a street environment services area manager to ensure you have acceptable provision for waste storage.

The borough is divided into three areas, north, central and south (the guide shows the area responsibilities on a map).
