Each year, the Mayor of Islington chooses a local charity to support. This year, Cllr Jackson has chosen Islington Giving.
Cllr Jackson said: “Islington Giving does incredible work in the community, for the community. They represent the very best of our borough, raising funds, supporting mental health, creating jobs for young people, and connecting neighbours. I look forward to championing their efforts throughout my mayoral year.”
What is Islington Giving?
Islington Giving is a group of local people and organisations who work together to make life better in Islington. They’ve been doing this for 15 years!
They raise money to help:
- people who feel lonely or left out
- anyone who needs support with their mental health
- young people looking for jobs
- local groups with great ideas to help the community.
Since 2010, they’ve given over £11 million to local charities and they now support more than 100 projects every year.
What do they do?
Here are some of the things Islington Giving helps with:
- Mental health: they fund support with people who are struggling, especially young people and those facing complex challenges. They work with organisations like Arsenal in the Community, Brandon Centre, and KMEWO.
- Food support: they help food banks and community co-ops like Manor Gardens, offering affordable food and activities that bring neighbours together.
- Listening to locals: they let local people help decide where money goes and to projects they want to see in their community through their Young Grant Makers and Carers Panels.
- Local projects: they give money to small, local ideas that boost health, joy, and connection, like gardening, dance, or cooking projects. In 2024, they supported 60 of these.
